Missions: Regional "Across the Nation"
Lydia Patterson Institute, El Paso, Texas
This school, the only Methodist sponsored high school in the nation, is located just inside the U.S. border provides outstanding education to predominantly Hispanic students (many of whom travel over an hour to school each way.) Our congregation provides financial support and a work team that travels to El Paso once a year (October) to perform necessary maintenance or new construction. This is a highly rewarding experience serving God’s children. If you would like to serve contact Clyde Vasey, crvasey3@yahoo.com.
Gleaning Network of Texas
This organization was started recently as a replacement for the Society of St. Andrew that closed in Texas. FUMC Coppell has a long history of supporting gleaning efforts where volunteers go into the fields to glean tons of produce that is left by normal agriculture processes, then dispersed to food banks around the country. While this is not a new mission at FUMC it is a NEW organization and a great way to serve for people of all ages. If you or your group would like to serve contact Susie Marshall, Susie@gleantexas.org.
Disaster Response
Our first response is always Prayer. In addition to your family prayers, all are invited to join our prayer circle Thursdays, 1:30 pm in Rosenburg Chapel.
In what other ways do we respond?
1. Financial gifts to the church for:
a. United Methodist Committee on Relief for On-Site Relief and Recovery Operations
b. Pastor's Discretionary Fund for local assistance efforts
c. Direct gifts for salary and housing support of displaced church lay staff and clergy. You may note this gift on your check.
2. If you will bring your completed flood buckets and health kits to the "Mission Opportunities" table in Wesley Hall, we will forward them to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
