loving hands ministry for children with special needs

Jesus said, “Let the  children come to me for they shall inherit the kingdom of heaven.” Our Loving HANDS Ministry offers Hope, Acceptance, iNclusion, Dignity, and Support for all families of young adults, youth, and children with special needs.

Our goal is to ensure each child feels loved and accepted. We will provide a buddy for children who may need a little extra help staying focused during a church activity. This also enables the  rest of the family to participate in  other activities that interest them.  We offer this service free of charge, and families do not have to be members of the church to participate.

We have many wonderful, loving volunteers who are ready and willing to share God’s love with your children.

Loving HANDS Respite

We would love to give parents with special needs kids some much deserved time to themselves. We offer a respite–a safe, fun, and free place to bring your special needs children (ages 1 – 16 ) and their siblings (up to age 10). We assign two volunteers to each child,  and a registered nurse is present at each respite.  All adult volunteers have completed Ministry Safe training and background checks.

  • Pre-registration and reservations are required.

“Night to Shine” Prom

February of 2017, FUMC Coppell was able to play a small part in the “Night to Shine” Dance held at St Ann’s Parrish. “Night to Shine” was founded by the Tim Tebow Foundation and is a dance for people with special needs. February 9 will be the 2nd annual “Night to Shine Dance” at St. Ann’s and FUMC Coppell is playing a bigger role this year as a host church along with “The Servant House” in Lewisville.

Our responsibilities involve running the “boutique” where the attendees of the dance can come “shop” for a prom dress, suit and accessories. We are also in charge of running the parent/guardian room at the dance. Both of these require volunteers to be successful and that is where our congregation comes in. There are many other volunteer opportunities listed in the sign up so if you are unable to help with the two mentioned, look at what may fit better into your schedule. Please look at the sign up genius and fill in where you can help.

All volunteers are required to attend a training session prior to the dance. We will have a session at FUMC on January 21, 2018 at 12:15 p.m.  Questions: Contact Kathy Braem, kbraem@fumccoppell.org or 972-743-4133
