While the mother of Jesus is central to the Christmas story and easily one of the most recognizable figures in Christian history, do we really know her? Mary is much more than the person depicted in a famous painting or statue. She is far more than the pristine, ceramic figure that we bring out once a year in a crèche. She is a model of the Christian life for all of us. Mary represents the best we can be as we answer God’s call. This year, our season will be much more meaningful (maybe even more ‘Merry’) as we learn from the first person to really get what Christmas was all about.
